Interfaith dialogue between Judaism, Christianity and Islam
Dialogue between Jews, Christians and Muslims was at the centre of André Chouraqui's life. He co-founded the Amitié Judéo-Chrétienne and the Fraternité d'Abraham in France, founded and led interfaith committees in Israel, and translated the scriptures of all three monotheistic religions into French.

In France, Chouraqui co-founded the Amitié Judéo-Chrétienne and, with the Rector of the Paris Mosque Hamza Boubakeur and Father Riquet, the Fraternité d'Abraham — a movement bringing together followers of the Abrahamic religions, which arose from his meeting with Cardinal Daniélou in the framework of the Nostra Aetate declaration.
In 1956, during his stay in Israel, he secured the Israeli Government's support for creating the Committee for Religious Understanding in Israel and worldwide. These interfaith committees, bringing together Jewish, Christian and Muslim authorities, built a bridge between religions separated by centuries of conflict. As Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem he was specially charged with interfaith relations.
In 1974 he represented Israel at the World Conference on Religions for Peace in Louvain, where he obtained a peace declaration adopted unanimously, including by the large Arab delegation. His Letter to an Arab Friend (1969) had a deep and lasting resonance and later inspired the play The Forgotten Future by Sliman Benaïssa (1999).
His translations of the Bible, the New Testament and the Qur'an — the sacred texts of the three monotheisms — were themselves a work of dialogue. A collection of his lectures and articles on intercultural and interreligious relations, Accepting the Other in Their Difference, was published in 2013 with a preface by Father Emile Shoufani.
