The Institute for the Study of Relations between Jews, Christians and Muslims and the Chouraqui Platform for Religion and Knowledge at the Open University invite you to a screening of “A Desperate Hope for Peace”, in the presence of the director, Daniel Friedman.
Year after year, Daniel Friedman struggles to find his mother's gravestone in the kibbutz's ever-expanding cemetery. Meanwhile, he accompanies his visits to Israel with a tour of interviews that opens a window into the inner world of intellectuals, politicians and residents near the cemetery, including their thoughts about violence. The director's interviews succeed in reflecting the state of those caught up in one of the longest and most difficult conflicts in human history.
Daniel Friedman's films include The Last Woman from the First Train (La Dernière femme du premier train, 2015), the story of survivor Hilda Hrabovecká, who was deported on the first death train to Auschwitz in March 1942.
Friedman is a French sociologist and documentary filmmaker. He was previously a researcher at the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) in France, and currently teaches at the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS) in Paris.
